Karachi: The Sindh government has suspended the registration of a private school in Hyderabad for showing negligence in preventing the death of a female student who died after jumping from the third floor of the school building.

A Class six student lost her life in the incident that happened at a branch of a famous chain of private schools in Qasimabad area of Hyderabad.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah immediately took cognisance of the incident and ordered educational authorities to probe into the issue to determine whether the administration of the school showed negligence in securing the life of the student. A two-member inquiry committee of the Sindh government probed the incident.

The incident remains shrouded in mystery as the reason why the student took the extreme step has not been known yet. An unverified letter appeared on social media purportedly written by the deceased before her death complaining about the callous and discriminatory attitude on the part of her parents. The girl complained that her parents had been treating her sister in a very favourable manner while she was being subjected to ill-treatment at home without any reason.

Soon after the incident, once the body of the girl was shifted to a hospital, her parents and school Principal refused to give any version to the media persons.

The inquiry committee gave its findings after examining the footage of the incident obtained from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera system installed on the school premises.

In its probe report, the committee said that two members of the school staff present at the site when the tragedy occurred showed negligence and failed to prevent the student from taking the extreme step.

The police have involved both staff members in the investigation.

The committee said that the school administration despite having CCTV surveillance of the educational premises didn’t make any attempt to secure the life of the student.

It also recommended to the management of the relevant chain of schools to dismiss the school principal from service.

The Education Minister while terming the incident highly sorrowful said the administration of the school concerned couldn’t be offered any concession.
