Karachi: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police has arrested the main suspect involved in the late last month’s attack on a private dental clinic in Karachi that resulted in the killing one and injuring two who own the clinic.
Speaking at a press conference, Sindh Information Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said the Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, had tasked the CTD to probe the brazen attack on the Chinese-origin persons in Karachi.
He said the CTD in collaboration with the intelligence agencies had probed the incident and arrested the suspect, Waqar Khushk, who belonged to a terrorist outfit and also recovered the motorcycle that was used in the attack.
He told media persons that more teams comprising officials of the CTD and intelligence agencies had been constituted to arrest other accomplices of the suspect.
The minister said the footage obtained from over 100 surveillance cameras near the crime scene and other technology related to the forensic criminal investigation had been used by relevant agencies to trace the suspect.
He appreciated that the CTD and police had played an important role in successfully probing and arresting the suspects involved in the high-profile terrorism incidents in the provincial capital in the recent past.
The minister was of the view that terrorists had been perpetrating violence not to target anyone in particular but to sow the seeds of fear in the country for impeding the process of foreign investment and development.
He said that the anti-state elements had been using innocent persons for the purpose.
Memon mentioned that a witness protection regime was available in the province under a law passed by the Sindh Assembly some years ago as the people should show responsibility by coming forward to lodge a criminal case and testify against the criminals so that police could take definitive action against the menacing issue of street crimes.
