Islamabad: Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of medium range nuclear-capable ballistic missile Hatf-V (Ghauri), the military announced.

A strategic missile group of the Army Strategic Force Command carried out the launch on the culmination of a field training exercise aimed at testing the operational readiness of the Army Strategic Force Command, the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.

Having a range of 1300 kilometres‚ the Ghauri ballistic missile is a liquid-fuel missile which can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads, it said.

The test consolidates and strengthens Pakistan’s deterrence capability‚ and national security, the statement said.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Pervez Ashraf have congratulated all ranks of the Army Strategic Force Command on the excellent standard achieved during training, which was reflected in the proficient handling of the weapon system in the field and the accuracy of the training launch.
