Islamabad: Pakistan has announced to pay $11.6 million (Rs1.9 billion) in compensation to the Chinese nationals affected by the Dasu terrorist attack. The compensation will be offered to the family members who lost their lives as well as those Chinese nationals wounded in the attack.

The decision was announced by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet. “The ECC after deliberation and considering the depth of our relationship with China approved the proposal of payment of $ 11.6 million as a goodwill gesture” the official statement reads.

Pakistani officials said the compensation package would help address the needs of victims and their families following the terrorist attack and would offer support to the injured that they need to rebuild their lives.

As many as 10 Chinese citizens lost their lives and another 28 were injured in a terror attack on a bus that was carrying them to the worksite of the Dasu Hydropower Project in July last year. Four Pakistani nationals had also lost their lives in the attack.
