Islamabad: Police in Lahore have fined a restaurant for serving former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif during a recent visit there.

The Gawalmandi police have registered a case against the administration of the ‘Butt Karahi’ at Laxmi Chowk for violating COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The restaurant had offered Nawaz who is also vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and her party members its traditional ‘mutton karahi’ cooked in butter and black pepper when she was returning after addressing a corner meeting in the Lohari Gate as part of the preparations for the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) Dec 13 rally.

Prized cuisine

Nawaz on Thursday, Dec 10, had briefly stopped at the restaurant along with her companions Pervaiz Rashid, Marriyum Aurangzaib and others and tasted their prized cuisine.

Later, she uploaded a video on social media of eating “in Lahori style following her father’s example.”

While commenting on the registration of a case against the restaurant management, she said it showed the government’s nervousness ahead of Sunday’s PDM rally.

In her tweet, she demanded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government not to take revenge from the people.

Earlier, Lahore Police also arrested DJ Butt the sound system provider to Nawaz’s rally. DJ Butt is also giving services to the PML-N leadership for PDM’s Sunday’s rally. He was arrested on Wednesday by the Lahore police and was granted bail on Thursday by the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Police had arrested him on the charges of possessing an illegal weapon for and interference in the official work.

Butt had been providing a sound system for the rallies of the PML-N in Lahore and elsewhere and was also hired by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during its 126-day sit-in in Islamabad in 2014.

In a major cabinet shakeup, Prime Minister Imran Khan has changed the portfolio of the cabinet minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed from Railway to Interior apparently to handle the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Alliance (PDM) anti-government movement.

According to a notification issued by Prime Minister Office (PMO), Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Swati has replaced Rashid as railways minister.

No difference

Immediately after taking the charge of Interior ministry, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed took to social media and conveyed to the opposition parties’ alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement that their rallies and politics of agitation were not going to make any difference.

“Do whatever you can, it will result in zero. A leader gives a call instead of distributing invitations among workers from doo to door,” said the interior minister in his tweet.

People know about the NACTA (National Counter-Terrorism Authority) high alert and they are also aware of the virus. Opposition parties’ politics is heading towards a blind alley and will result in disappointment and despair.” Ultimately, Imran Khan will emerge victorious, he said.
