Islamabad: Islamabad has become the first city in Pakistan to have half its population (15 years and above) fully vaccinated. This was announced by Chairman of the NCOC, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiative Asad Umar in a tweet on Sunday. About 71 per cent of the population have also been administered the first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, the minister announced.

Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat had a day earlier issued a sealing order restricting movement in several streets of the city in view of reports of COVID-19 cases there.

According to the order, these streets will have restricted movement/controlled entry and exit from 7pm until further orders.

In all, the Islamabad administration has imposed restrictions on 25 streets in various sectors. These curbs will remain enforced till further orders.

However, exemptions to this order include essential services and pharmacies, grocery stores and bakeries, patients for medical aid/consultation, ration, drinking water supplies, utilities and emergencies. They will be regulated by the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued from time to time.

Positivity rate

Sunday was the second consecutive day with less than 6 per cent COVID-19 positivity rate. According to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), against 57,792 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 3,153 people tested positive.

This shows the positivity rate has dropped to 5.45 per cent. A day earlier, too, the positivity rate was 5.50 per cent and this significant improvement in the coronavirus situation is attributed to the Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) or the coronavirus curbs imposed in 24 districts highly affected by the virus.

The NCOC data also shows a decrease in the number of daily deaths, 58, in the past 24 hours.

On the recovery side too, the country is showing good signs as 3,797 persons were recovered from coronavirus in the past twenty-four hours taking the overall number of recovered cases to 1.086,785 million.

The National Health Services (NHS) Ministry’s portal shows 26,720 deaths caused so far by COVID-19 while the number of positive cases has topped 1.204 million. The number of active cases has also dropped from 91,717 on Saturday to 91,015 on Sunday, according to the NHS ministry.
