Islamabad: The Supreme Court has fixed a December 19 date for the next hearing on petitions seeking an investigation into a scandal related to an alleged memo asking for Washington's help to rein in the Pakistani military.
A nine-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry is hearing nine petitions filed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and others.
The initial hearing of the case was held on December 1 when the court issued notices for submission of replies by all those named in the petitions.
The respondents include President Asif Ali Zardari, former Ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani, US businessman of Pakistani origin Mansour Ijaz, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha and others.
The bench is expected to make a decision regarding a probe commission at the next hearing.
