Karachi: The Sindh government’s Health Department has established a special vaccination centre at the Arts Council, Karachi to vaccinate the aged members of the artiste and literary fraternity of the city and their family members for their protection against the coronavirus.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho along with the Parliamentary Secretary for Health in Sindh Assembly Qasim Soomro inaugurated the COVID-19 vaccination centre at the Arts Council.

Speaking at the press conference on the occasion, Arts Council President Mohammad Ahmed Shah said that the vaccination centre was going to benefit around 2,850 members of the Arts Council whose age is over 60.

“Today’s press conference is being held at the same place of the Arts Council where in 1964 Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (former prime minister) as being the Foreign minister of Pakistan delivered a speech about cultural policy of Pakistan and how to use culture for doing diplomacy,” the Arts Council President recalled.

Shah said that he was thankful to the Sindh Health Department for providing this special privilege to the writers, poets and artists of Pakistan. “This privilege provides the opportunity to people of the artistes and literary circles to get vaccinated against the coronavirus in the most comfortable and air-conditioned environment,” he said.

He mentioned that setting up of the vaccination centre had become necessary keeping in view the age of many of the Arts Council members and also taking into account their contribution to the society.

Fragile health

Sindh Health Minister said that the people of the artistes and literary community formed a valuable asset of the society as their vaccination had become necessary as many of them possessed very fragile health due to advanced age.

“That is why we have established this vaccination centre here to facilitate the inoculation of the Arts Council members,” she informed the media persons.

She added that they had been trying their best to reach out to every such community whose members had been facing difficulty in getting vaccinated against the fatal disease of coronavirus.

In his video message after getting the first dose of the vaccine at the Arts Council, Renowned TV actor Behroze Sabzwari expressed gratitude to the Arts Council President and Sindh Health Department for providing him with the most comfortable environment to get the vaccine in just 15 minutes against COVID-19.
