Islamabad: Pakistan on Wednesday reported decline in COVID-19 cases as the positivity rate dropped below 5 per cent. Over 10,000 persons were reported to have recovered in the last twenty-four hours.

According to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan’s nerve centre monitoring the coronavirus situation, the country’s positivity rate dropped below 5 per cent registering a 4.78 per cent positivity rate in a period of two months.

Last time, Pakistan’s COVID-19 rate had dropped to 4.19 per cent on July 13.

The country saw another boost in the battle against COVID-19 as 10,928 persons recovered from the deadly virus in one day. This too, is an unprecedented number of single-day recoveries, said a senior official of the Ministry of the National Health Services.

According to the NCOC, against 56,733 tests conducted during the last 24 hours, 2,714 were diagnosed with COVID-19 infection while the number of active cases also declined significantly from 85,801 on Tuesday to 77,532 on Wednesday.

70 million doses administered

In vaccination drive too, the country reached a milestone of 70 million and according to the Ministry of the National Health Services, 70.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered till now.

According to the ministry’s official twitter handle, 191 doses were administered in the private sector while 1,736 additional doses were administered in last 24 hours.

In total, 890,000 doses of vaccine were administered in the past 24 hours, the ministry further informs.

Sindh allows indoor dining

In view of the country’s positivity rate slipping below 5 per cent, the government of Sindh relaxed COVID-19 curbs in the province, including allowing markets and businesses to operate till 10pm as well as indoor dining till midnight.

According to a notification issued by the provincial Home Department, the new guidelines are effective from September 16 (Thursday) to September 30.

They include: indoor dining allowed for vaccinated citizens at 50pc occupancy; takeaway/drive through and home delivery allowed 24/7; indoor gatherings allowed for vaccinated people with a maximum capacity of 200 guests; normal working hours allowed at offices with 100pc attendance; businesses/markets can operate till 10pm and Sunday is closed day for Karachi division, Friday for the rest of the province
