Call to keep strict vigil on suspect vehicles

Lahore: The interior ministry has directed the Punjab Government to keep a vigilant eye for vehicles with tinted windows, blue beacon lights and unauthorised registration plates besides private motorbikes with police number plates following intelligence reports that such vehicles could be used by terrorists.

According to sources in the Punjab home department, the ministry has also directed all diplomatic missions to remove diplomatic plates before auctioning vehicles since it had come to light that the purchasers continued to sport the special plates.

According to the sources, intelligence agencies warned that terrorists could target VVIPs, key installations and foreign missions employing such vehicles to transport explosive material and sophisticated weapons.
