Karachi: Some 500 underprivileged families of the Hindu community enduring the flood devastation in Sindh were given gifts and special aid packages on the eve of Diwali.

A leading charity of Pakistan, Al-Khidmat Foundation, organised the event at the Jind Pir Temple in Old Sukkur city.

The aid packages comprised food items, hygiene kits, shoes, clothes, and mosquito nets. The participants of the event were served free meals while makeshift truck shops were present for serving snacks to the children. Apart from Al-Khidmat’s office-bearers, dignitaries of the Hindu community also attended the event.

Al-Khidmat also organised similar gift distribution ceremonies at the temples of other towns of Sindh including Kandhkot, Thul, Jacoabad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and Tando Allahyar. A total of over 2,000 aid packages were distributed at these ceremonies.

Speaking on the occasion, Al-Khdidmat Central Vice-President, Syed Ehsanullah Waqas, said that his charity stood for assisting the underprivileged communities to celebrate festivities irrespective of their religious affiliation.

He said the commemoration of festivities was one of the fundamental rights of every person as the destitute communities should be given support for this noble cause.

He said the local Hindu community was surveyed beforehand for identifying the deserving families as they had been issued coupons in advance for distribution of the aid packages and gifts in an organised manner.

Waqas told the audience of the event that the members of the community were loyal and faithful citizens of Pakistan who had been actively participating to build the nation.

He mentioned that underprivileged people of minorities routinely became beneficiaries of different charitable initiatives of Al-Khdimat including water supply projects, healthcare facilities, educational scholarships, and assistance for differently-abled persons.

He urged the concerned philanthropists to come forward and wholeheartedly support the Hindu community in Sindh whose many families had been devastated by floods.
