Thousands mourn as Indonesia's Suharto is buried in state funeral
Jakarta: The body of Indonesia's former president Suharto has been buried in a state funeral in the royal city of Solo on Monday.
His body was flown to Solo in central Java from Jakarta and then driven to the Suharto family mausoleum at Giribangun. Thousands of people lined up the roads to watch the procession.
Suharto died in a Jakarta hospital on Sunday after suffering multiple organ failure. He was 86.
National and regional officials, including Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, arrived for the funeral.
At the family mausoleum, police and soldiers lined the streets, and flags flew at half-mast. Some onlookers waved as the hearse went by, others threw flowers.
Security was tight at the family mausoleum where dozens of soldiers and police stood guard near tents erected for officials and dignitaries who arrived for the funeral.
