Dubai: A mother and her young daughter’s jeep safari in the iconic Kaziranga National Park — home to the majestic one-horned rhinoceros — turned into a heart-stopping experience that left onlookers shaken and grateful for a miraculous escape.

An undated video of the incident, now viral on social media, captures the drama that unfolded when what began as a routine safari in the Indian state of Assam suddenly spiralled into a near-tragedy.

The clip shows a rhinoceros strolling nonchalantly behind a safari jeep. As panic spread, three other jeeps packed with tourists speed away, causing chaos on the dirt track, Indian media reported.

In the scramble, the mother and daughter are thrown out of their jeep, landing hard on the ground. Their cries for help echoed through the jungle as another rhinoceros charged toward the third jeep, stopping terrifyingly close to the spot where they lay.

Quick thinking from the safari driver, who reversed the jeep just in time, and sheer luck allowed the duo to scramble back to safety.

“It was a moment of terror I will never forget,” a witness said. “It could have ended so much worse.”

Kaziranga National Park, renowned for its thriving population of one-horned rhinos, has become a favourite destination for wildlife lovers.

This season alone, the park recorded its highest tourist footfall in two decades, with over 164,000 visitors.

The park administration has since launched an investigation into the incident and urged tourists to stay vigilant during safaris, according to NDTV. “Wild animals are unpredictable. This was a rare and unfortunate scare, but thankfully, everyone is safe,” said a park official.

For the mother and daughter, the safari may have ended in relief, but their brush with nature’s raw power is a memory they’ll carry for a lifetime — a chilling reminder of the delicate balance between humans and the wild.
