Dubai: A physical fight on a debate show in India has gone viral, with tweeps sharing a clip of politicians going at each other.

On Saturday, during the televised debate, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia and Samajwadi Party’s Anurag Bhadoria decided to move beyond a war of words and were seen pushing each other around during a debate organised by Indian news channel Zee News.

Tweeps commented on the altercation, with some suggesting that TV studios should now hire bouncers because of the heated interactions.

Tweep @ashoswai shared the news report on the incident and wrote: “TV studios in ‘peace-loving’ India need to employ a few bouncers!”

Another Twitter user, @kurup62, commented: “News media in India has become a reality show, nothing but cacophony and jingoism. Fist fight yesterday in a TV news debate among politicians shows the seriousness and level of debate. What a shame, Indian media. Sorry state of affairs.”

Other tweeps described the politicians as “roadside goons”. According to Indian media reports, Bhadoria was later detained by police in the city of Noida, near New Delhi.

With key states elections this week and general elections due next year, the tone of television deabtes as well as speeches by party leaders has become increasingly aggressive.
