A tempo traveller struck the undercarriage of a stationary IndiGo aircraft at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Friday around 12pm.

Reports indicate that the aircraft was not in operation at the time and had been grounded for engine repairs. “Initial investigations revealed that the driver of the tempo traveller, deployed by Globe Ground India—a ground handling company—dozed off and only realised what had happened after the vehicle hit the aircraft,” a source said.

The airline was quoted as saying in a statement, “The accident occurred due to the tempo traveller driver’s negligence while dropping off staff. The aircraft was grounded for engine repairs and parked at the time. The vehicle’s top portion was damaged, and the driver sustained minor injuries.”

Images of the incident quickly circulated on social media, showing visible damage to the front of the tempo traveller and the undercarriage of the aircraft.

No impact on airport operations or flight schedules has been reported.
