It appears the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)-Congress alliance was able to swing things its way in the Naxalite-hit district of Warangal, if Tuesday's trends are to be believed, amid strangely peaceful polling which surprised even the police.

There was no violence even in Naxalite areas of Eturnagaram, Tadwai, Mulug, Ghanpur and Cheryal.

Though the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) flags, caps and banners were very conspicuous outside, inside polling booths voters openly asked officials to locate the car symbol for them to vote.

Thus, the TRS is expected to take the Warangal and Hanamkonda Lok Sabha (LS) seats; Hanamkonda, Cheryal, Station Ghanpur and Chennur Assembly seats while the Congress Sayampet and Dornakal. The TDP will retain Wardhannapet.

The face saver for the TDP are many women who still favour the cycle symbol. In DC Thanda of Wardhannapet Assembly, most tribal women said they know of only the cycle symbol, though young voters openly supported the TRS Lok Sabha candidate D. Ravindra Naik.

In Rayaparthi village of the same constituency, a woman was reported to be encouraging other women to vote TDP.

At Gangapuram Thanda in the Devaruppula mandal under Jangaon Assembly, women said they voted cycle because they got gas connections and ration cards.

In Adilabad district the sentiment was again "we will puncture the cycle" (the TDP symbol) and villagers voted for the car-hand (TRS-Congress symbols).
