Superstar Rajnikanth falls flat on his face

Last updated:

For the second time in two years, the script failed Tamil superstar Rajnikanth. First, his 2002 mega film Baba bombed at the box office and now his passionate call to his fans to defeat the Pattal Makkal Katchi (PMK) in the Lok Sabha elections fell flat as the PMK won all six seats it contested in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

Not just that, exulting PMK cadres in their stronghold northern districts are burning the star's effigies giving vent to their anger at him for abusing their leader Dr S. Ramadoss as "the king of political violence in Tamil Nadu." Mock funeral processions for Rajnikanth were conducted at Jayan-kondam, according to reports reaching here.

The star's war with the PMK chief had begun after the latter issued a diktat to his cadres, during the release of Baba in August 2002, to boycott his films as they spoilt the youth by glamourising smoking and drinking. There were a few incidents of the PMK workers attacking theatres screening Baba and carrying away the film cans.

Rajni, who had announced his new film, Jaggubai a few days back, has gone to Hyderabad for rest, reports said.
