School bus crashes into river in Mangalore

New Delhi: At least seven children drowned, and many are missing, when their school bus crashed into a river in Mangalore, India on Thursday, media reported.

The driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp bend on the outskirts of Mangalore, a city nearly 1,900 kilometres southwest of New Delhi, a police officer said.

The bus was carrying more than 30 people, mostly children, when it plunged into the Phalguni river.

Police rescued 14 children and were searching for another seven others believed missing.
