Patna: Bank officials in Bihar have come under fire after a lone robber looted a government-owned bank by simply using his finger as a “gun”.

Police said the masked robber entered the local branch of the United Bank of India located in the heart of Patna, capital of Bihar, on New Year’s Eve and brandished his index finger as a pistol at the cash counter. The bank officials didn’t notice his trick, as he had covered his fingers with a handkerchief.

The panicky bank officials put cash in the plastic bag the robber had carried with him. The robber fled after his plastic bag was filled up to the brim with the hard cash totalling Rs912,200.

The trick came to light when the police scanned the CCTV footage after the robbery. The images showed the masked robber in his 30s wearing gloves and pointing his handkerchief-covered index finger at officials.

“The robber was carrying no weapon in his hand and looted the bank with his ‘finger gun’,” Patna’s senior superintendent of police Garima Malik told the media on Thursday.

Another senior official, Inspector General of police Sanjay Singh said the police have formed a special team to nab the robber. “The police are conducting intensive raids and the robber will be caught very soon,” the IG said.

After committing the crime, the robber easily walked out of the bank, without being challenged by anyone and then fled the scene using a shared auto-rickshaw.
