One body recovered as rescue workers continue search Hyderabad: Two days after a boat carrying over 80 people capsized in the Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh's Mahbubnagar district, authorities yesterday recovered one body. The body was found floating about 10km away from the accident site in the backwaters of the Srisailam dam near Manchala Katta village. The victim has been identified as Srinivas Reddy. The search was on for the bodies of 63 people, including 17 women and 19 children, who were feared drowned in the tragedy.
CPM leader visits retreat centre
Thiruvananthapuram: The state secretary of the Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM), Pinarayi Vijayan, yesterday visited the Christian retreat centre in Muringoor and gave the institution a clean chit. Vijayan's visit is speculated to be an effort to neutralise the damage caused to Muringoor's prestige following a police raid at high court's direction.
Congress leader appointed governor
Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congressman from Kerala, K. Sankaranarayanan, who has been selected to be the governor of northeastern state Nagaland, is expected to take the oath of office in February. The present Meghalaya Governor M.M. Jacob, who is also from Kerala, has been given the additional charge of Arunachal Pradesh.
Boy goes to school with gunman
Kanpur: A ninth standard student, the son of a local political leader, yesterday reportedly went to his school here with a police gunner. Shardulya Pandey, a student of the private UP Kirana School in Kidwai Nagar area, had been "threatening" the teachers not to punish any students, the Principal of the school, Kiran Jyoti alleged.
Court summons Priyanka Chopra
Mhow: A court in Madhya Pradesh yesterday issued summons on Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and her father Ashok Chopra on a complaint filed by her former secretary Prakash Jaju Jaju, who has claimed the actress owes him Rs 130 million.
Archbishop laid to rest
Thiruvananthapuram: The archbishop of the Malankara Church, Cyril Mar Baselios who died on Thursday evening, was laid to rest yesterday at the Pattom St Mary's Church here, with full state honours.
