Patna: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using foul language against the opposition and said the latter had lost his peace of mind as he fears imminent defeat in the ongoing Bihar state polls.

“Now what is Modi doing today? He often abuses the Grand Secular Alliance wherever he holds his election rallies. He calls us ‘Shaitan’ [devil], ‘tantrik’ and ‘Three Idiots’. That doesn’t suit the stature of someone holding high office,” the Gandhi scion said, addressing a series of election rallies in Bihar on Thursday.

He said the Prime Minister had turned angry after realising that his party was badly losing elections in Bihar despite all his efforts.

Gandhi’s comments come in response to Modi’s recent remarks terming the three partners of Grand Secular Alliance comprising the Janata Dal United (JD-U), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress party as “Three Idiots” at his election rallies in the state.

Modi made the remarks after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recited a limerick set to a film song from “Three Idiots” to attack the prime minister over issues including black money, foreign trips, rising inflation, the ‘maan ki baat’ programme and his obsession for selfies.

“Bahti Hawa sa tha woh, Gujarat se aaya tha woh, kaala dhan laane wala thaa wo, kahan gaya use doondho. Humko desh ki fikr sataati hai, woh bus videsh ke daure lagaate hain, humko badhti mahangai satata, wo bas mann ki baat sunata. Har waqt apni selfie khinchta tha woh, Dawood ko laane wala tha woh, kahan gaya use dhoondo,” Nitish had said, parodying a song from the film 3 Idiots.

[He was like the blowing wind, from Gujarat he came with promise to bring back black money, where has he gone? Find him. While we worry about the country, he travels abroad; While price rise bothers us, he tells us only his ‘mann ki baat. Always busy clicking selfies, he promised to bring back Dawood. Where has he gone? Find him.]

Modi reacted by saying, “What a game of entertainment Nitish Babu! You still have a week’s time. Spend it doing this. Call your four-six courtiers, hold a Mushaira. “Practise it, perfect it, you will get many opportunities after November 8 [the day of counting]. You can then sing at leisure songs of your suffering and shed tears ruing why you left someone, why you joined someone. Keep writing poems on all this and keep shedding tears,” Modi said, terming partners of Grand Secular Alliance as “Three Idiots”.

Gandhi further accused the Prime Minister of turning to ‘Plan B’ after failing in his mission to win the support of the masses.

“Do you know what is plan ‘B’. It’s ‘divide and rule’. Wherever there is any election, they spread communal tension and try to set Hindus against Muslims but their plan has failed,” he alleged.

He also charged the Prime Minister with doing nonsense. “He only talks a lot. Sometimes he makes people practice yoga, sometime asks them to sweep floors. But one has never heard him talk about the issues of poor, farmers and deprived,” he said adding people had now realised they committed blunder by voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
