The man climbed the pole after his mother denied him money on New Year’s Eve
A scene of panic unfolded in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, when a man, heavily intoxicated, climbed an electric pole and lay down for a nap on hanging power lines.
The bizarre incident, which occurred in Manyam district on Tuesday, December 31, drew a crowd of concerned locals who watched in alarm as the man’s dangerous behaviour unfolded.
According to reports from News 18, passersby first spotted the man climbing the pole and rushed to intervene.
Despite their repeated pleas, he continued climbing and even reached the top of the pole, swaying momentarily while suspended in the air. The situation escalated when he lay down on the live electric wires, remaining unresponsive due to his drunken state.
The terrified onlookers took immediate action by de-energizing the transformer to prevent him from touching the live wires, which could have resulted in a fatal disaster. After a tense wait, they managed to safely bring him down.
According to media reports, the man, identified as K. Venkanna, climbed the pole after his mother denied him money on New Year’s Eve to buy more alcohol. After repeated requests, he eventually came down, and the police arrived to file a case. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
The video of his shocking antics has since gone viral on social media, prompting widespread concern over public safety.
