Sporadic violence reported as protestors target parties supporting the division
Hyderabad: Life remained paralysed in most parts of Andhra-Seema regions of Andhra Pradesh for the third consecutive day as the 72-hour strike called by the united AP Joint Action Committee came to an end on Friday.
Sporadic incidents of violence were reported as the anti Telangana protestors targeted the political parties supporting the division of the state. In Guntur, some unknown miscreants set a BJP office on fire. However, nobody was injured in the incident.
The protestors also continued to attack the statues of national leaders of Congress party specially Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Miscreants disfigured Rajiv Gandhi’s statue at Jangareddygudem in West Godavari. A large number of statues were burnt at different places by putting tyres around them over the last three days.
The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has warned the protestors against damaging statues and public property. But still there was no sign of police or security forces effectively controlling the situation.
Mobs continue to rule the roads in Vijaywada, Guntur, Anantapur and other places and massive traffic jams were created by road blockades.
As schools and colleges remain closed, students were mostly on the roads. Processions were taken out and sit in protests were organised in Anantapur throughout the day. Similar protests were there in Kadapa, Kurnool and Srikakulam. Sonia Gandhi’s effigy was burnt in Kadapa and Jaggaiahpet.
Anti-Telangana protestors have called from Petro bunks closure in Guntur on Saturday.
In another incident of suicide in support of united Andhra Pradesh was reported from Palakoderu mandal of West Godavari district 35-year-old Srinu hanged himself.
Two days ago a home guard had committed suicide in Vijayanagaram. Political leaders have appealed to the youth to avoid taking their lives.
