K. Ramachandran dies after kidney failure

Well-known writer, orator and Communist Party of India leader Kaniyapuram Ramachandran died at the Medical College Hospital here yesterday. He was admitted to the hospital a few days ago following a kidney complaint.

Well-known writer, orator and Communist Party of India leader Kaniyapuram Ramachandran died at the Medical College Hospital here yesterday. He was admitted to the hospital a few days ago following a kidney complaint.

He was 67. Ramachandran had been undergoing treatment for the last three weeks for problems related to the kidney. Two days ago, his condition worsened and he died yesterday morning following kidney failure.

A former MLA, Ramachandran entered public life immediately after post-graduation. He was very active in political, social and cultural fields. He worked as the State President of the All India Yuvajana Federation between 1969 and 1974.

Besides being a member of the CPI State Council, Ramachandran was selected to the Kochi Party Congress in 1971, Vijayawada Party Congress in 1975 and later to the CPI National Council.

He won the State award for the best drama for his work Puthiyapuranam in 1988. He had also penned two screen-plays and songs for six Malayalam films.
