The emergency was declared at 9:35pm, and the flight landed safely at 9:52pm
An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Goa was diverted to Mumbai on Wednesday night after a technical issue was detected mid-air, prompting airport authorities to declare a full emergency.
Flight 6E 6271, which was originally scheduled to land at Goa's Manohar International Airport, was rerouted to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) as a precaution. The emergency was declared at 9:35pm, and the flight landed safely at 9:52pm. The emergency status was withdrawn five minutes later, according to a statement from CSMIA.
“All passengers were safely deboarded and assisted by terminal staff,” airport authorities confirmed. “There was no disruption to overall airport operations. At CSMIA, safety remains our highest priority.”
IndiGo issued a statement expressing regret for the inconvenience and confirmed that an alternate aircraft had been arranged to complete the journey to Goa.
“The replacement flight will depart shortly with all customers on board. At IndiGo, the safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft is paramount,” the airline said.
The airline added that all passengers were safe and that staff were coordinating onward travel to minimize disruption.
Authorities did not disclose specific details about the nature of the technical issue. However, sources indicated that the prompt action by the flight crew and ground teams ensured passenger safety without incident.
