A 21-year-old woman from Bihar has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband of just 45 days to continue an illicit relationship with her maternal uncle — a man she had reportedly been involved with for 15 years.

The chilling case is reminiscent of past “honeymoon murder” plots, including a recent one in Meghalaya where a woman allegedly planned the murder of her husband.

According to a report by The Times of India, the woman, identified as Gunja Singh, conspired with her uncle, Jeevan Singh, to eliminate her husband, Priyanshu Kumar Singh.

Priyanshu was killed on June 24 while returning from Nabinagar railway station.

Initial probe

An initial probe suggested a contract killing, but later the police found the murder had been masterminded by his own wife.

Police say the woman and her uncle had been in a 15-year relationship. Gunja married Priyanshu under family pressure and decided to eliminate her husband just weeks into the marriage.

Gunja and her uncle Jeevan used the help of two others to get SIM cards and other logistics in place to execute their plan.

On the night of the murder, while returning from Varanasi, Priyanshu called his wife to update her about his whereabouts. The information was passed on to the killers who then ambushed and shot him dead.

Gunja was arrested on Wednesday evening. During questioning she confessed to the conspiracy. Her uncle is absconding, but the accomplices have been held.

Meghalaya murder

The case bears similarity to another ‘honeymoon murder’ recently, where Sonam Raghuvanshi, 24, confessed to her role in the murder of her husband 29-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya.

Raja and Sonam got married on May 11 in Indore. Ten days later, they departed for their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

Police say the killers joined the couple on a trek on May 23, posing as fellow tourists. Sonam deliberately lagged behind during the trek and gave the cue by shouting “kill him”. That was when one of the three accused allegedly struck Raja with a sharp weapon. The others joined in, attacking his head and torso, the police said. Raja’s body was dragged to a gorge and pushed over.

Raja’s body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge in East Khasi Hills.
