New Delhi: India on Tuesday welcomed the United States' decision to offer a $10 million bounty for arrest of the Pakistan-based Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed.

India has named Saeed, the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) founder, as the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attacks in 2011.

"India welcomes this new initiative of the United States. This sends a strong message for the perpetrators of terrorism. This shows that international community stands united in fight against terrorism," Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna said.

"Hafiz Saeed is very safely somewhere in Pakistan. The US keeps a tap on terrorists across the world. I am sure that US is keeping track of Saeed as well. These conspirators cannot be spared. I have always raised this at the bilateral talks," Krishna added.

India had put pressure on the US to place Saeed on its most wanted list and would now watch keenly if it will change anything since Sayeed continues to roam free.

The announcement to this regard was made by the visiting US Under-Secretary of Political Affairs Wandy Sharman on Monday.

Welcoming the move, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Akbaruddin tweeted:  "India welcomes US notification under the Rewards for Justice Programme. It reflects commitment of India and the US to bring perpetrators of Mumbai terrorist attack to justice and continuing efforts to combat terrorism."
