Police arrested two men in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh after they allegedly molested a woman and tried to rape her inside a moving truck on Friday. The incident occurred in UP’s Unnao district, where, the death of a 23-year-old gang rape victim had sparked protests across the country last year.
According to Indian news reports, the 35-year-old woman was allegedly molested by her nephew and his friend.
Police said that on Thursday, the woman’s nephew approached her and told her that he had bought a piece of land in Agra. He requested the woman to accompany him to Agra for some paperwork, as she was educated, and he could use her help. The woman agreed.
On Friday, around 3pm, the woman, her nephew, and his friend left for Agra in a truck. According to a news report, the two men allegedly attempted to rape the woman and thrashed her when she resisted.
The woman's nephew allegedly bit her face and attempted to strangle her with a belt. Unsuccessful in their bid, the two eventually dropped the woman off on the express highway and fled from the spot.
A police official told Indian news media outlets that both the accused, who are in their twenties, were arrested within an hour of the incident.
