A 32-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after being hired by a commercial bank, as he had vowed to offer his life to a deity if he got a job. The incident happened in Kanyakumari district from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Thursday, and social media users are shocked by the news.

While sharing the news, a Facebook user Febronia Suchi commented: “….Did his committing suicide make any sense, what was he thinking?”

The deceased man was later identified as Naveen, a native of Elluvillai in Kanyakumari district.

According to the Indian news reports, Naveen jumped before a moving train. Later, a suicide note was recovered from his pocket. He wrote: “I am going to … who gave me a job.”

Facebook user, Vasanthi Ravindran posted: “He is highly educated. May be his mental health is weak. Please don’t laugh at him. Physical and mental health ...both are important.”

Police investigations have revealed that Naveen was an engineering graduate and was unemployed for the last several years. Apparently, it drove him to take the vow of offering his life to a deity in return for a job.

Naveen, earlier this month, was hired as an assistant manager by a leading bank in Mumbai. Weeks after joining duty, he, on Thursday, took a flight to Thiruvananthapuram and went to Marthandam in a taxi, where he met a friend.

Police officials said that from there, he went to the railway track at Putheri village in Rajakkamangalam and jumped in front of a running train.

Railway police retrieved his body on Friday. They sent it to Kanyakumari Government Medical College for autopsy. The police are also investigating if there was any other reasons for Naveen to have taken this extreme step.
