Patna: A teenaged girl was allegedly gang-raped in a running train in Bihar before being killed and her body thrown on the railway track. The incident occurred on Hathua-Bathua railway line in northern Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Monday night but was reported in the local media only on Wednesday.

Police said the victim had boarded a local train at Hathua station in Gopalganj district to reach her destination. The train had left the station at 11 PM to reach the nearest Bathua station. During the journey she was allegedly gang-raped and killed.

The next day, villagers noticed her body on the railway track near Selar Khurd station and reported the police which recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. “The entire incident has taken place in a running train. Gang-rape cannot be ruled out,” a local railway protection force official Janardan Shukla told the media Wednesday. According to the police, the girl was killed by slitting open her throat with a sharp-edged weapon.

This is the second incident of its kind in Bihar in the past six months. Earlier in January this year, a woman in her 30s had jumped off a running express train near Ara in Bhojpur district to escape being raped by an army personnel. In the process, the victim had suffered serious injuries in head and legs. She said she had gone to the toilet in the train when the man forcibly tried to enter inside to rape her.
