Amaravati: In a significant move, the Andhra Pradesh government has suspended senior IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar for repeatedly traveling abroad without prior approval.

A 1993 batch IPS officer, Sunil Kumar was awaiting a new posting after being transferred in June last year, shortly after the TDP-led coalition government came to power.

Sharp turn

The government order details multiple instances of unauthorised foreign travel. While permission was granted for a trip to Georgia in March 2023, Sunil Kumar instead visited a Gulf country.

Similar violations occurred in December 2022, October 2021, and December 2019-January 2020, where he travelled to the Gulf country and the UK despite official clearance only for other destinations.

In addition to these allegations, Sunil Kumar has been accused of misusing his authority by allowing his close associate, Tulasi Baba, access to the CID office during his tenure.

Attempt to murder

The case, now linked to an attempt to murder charge against former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, adds another layer of political and legal drama to Sunil Kumar’s fall from grace.
