A poorly-timed joke — "chaaro marenge" (all four of us will die) — tragically came true when a BMW carrying four pals crashed into a truck and was reduced to a twisted mess while being live streamed on social media.
All four were killed instantly.
The car allegedly reached a speed of 230 km/h when Dr. Anand Prakash, a 35-year-old professor at a private medical college in Rohtas, Bihar, was at the wheel, according to police.
On Facebook Live, one of the four excited passengers was overheard saying that the speedometer might soon reach 300 kph, to which another joked that it was a dangerous dying wish — which actually came true.
The impact caused the bodies of the occupants, including engineer Deepak Kumar, realtor Akhilesh Singh, and businessman Mukesh, to tumble out of the automobile.
All of the victims, who were in their mid-30s from Bihar, were traveling to Delhi.
The incident took place on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, according to a report in the Times of India.
Dr. Prakash's uncle, AK Singh, revealed to the media that his nephew had purchased the BMW from the head of a private school in Delhi.
According to Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Somen Barma, the accident is being investigated from all possible angles.
A team has been assembled to find the truck driver who fled after being accused of causing the deaths of the four men through negligence, pending the results of a technical investigation into the collision.
"The forensic state laboratory will assist in a technical inspection of the BMW and the cargo truck," he said.
