Heavy and continuous overnight rainfall brought Mumbai to a standstill on Monday, flooding several low-lying areas and severely disrupting transport services. A key subway in Andheri was submerged and has been closed, causing significant traffic delays.

An Air India flight arriving from Kochi skidded off the runway while landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport amid heavy downpour. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

Visuals from the city showed a local train moving cautiously over a submerged underpass.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for hefty rainfall in Mumbai and Raigad. A ‘yellow’ alert remains in place for Thane and Palghar. The IMD has warned of intermittent heavy rain continuing over the next 24 hours and advised residents to avoid non-essential travel and stay away from the seashore, as high tide levels are expected to reach up to 3.88 metres.
