Program offers 100% tuition fee waiver for eligible meritorious medical students
In an effort to support students from economically challenged backgrounds, Padma Shri Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder and Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, has announced the launch of the Dr. Moopen's Legacy Scholarship and Fellowships Programme. This initiative aims to assist meritorious students seeking admission to Dr. Moopen’s Medical College, Dr. Moopen’s Nursing College, and Dr. Moopen’s College of Pharmacy in Wayanad, Kerala.
This program represents a significant milestone as it is the first time a private medical college in Kerala is offering a 100% tuition fee waiver for eligible meritorious medical students, thereby enhancing access to quality healthcare education for talented and deserving individuals.
The scholarships will be awarded to 25 eligible students applying for MBBS, BSc Nursing, and BPharm courses. Each year, 5 MBBS students, 10 BSc Nursing students, and 10 BPharm students will receive these scholarships. Selection for the MBBS scholarships will be based solely on merit, recognizing and encouraging students with outstanding academic records and top NEET rankings. While these students will have priority in admissions, this initiative aims to provide them with additional recognition.
For the BSc Nursing and BPharm candidates, selection will be based on both academic merit and financial need. The scholarship will cover the entire tuition fees, provided that students maintain basic academic performance and adhere to program guidelines. Over the next five years, 125 students will benefit from this initiative, with the total financial commitment expected to exceed INR 3 crore per annum.
Dr. Azad Moopen said, “Education is the foundation of a stronger and more inclusive society. I firmly believe that no capable student should have to give up such aspirations due to economic constraints especially in a field as vital as healthcare."
"The Dr. Moopen’s Legacy Scholarship & Fellowships Programme marks a formal and larger commitment: not just to fund education, but to create opportunities that can transform the lives of individuals, their families, and an entire community,” Dr Moopen added.
Established in 2012, Dr. Moopen’s Medical College is the first medical college in Kerala set up in a hilly, tribal district, addressing the shortage of quality healthcare while inspiring local communities, especially tribal youth, to pursue careers in medicine.
The Dr. Moopen’s Legacy Scholarship & Fellowships Programme ensures that financial constraints do not hinder talented individuals. With around 900 young doctors nurtured across six batches, the college has become a sustainable hub for medical education, featuring experienced faculty, a library, a museum, and a hospital with tertiary care facilities.
Applications for the scholarship will open on July 28, 2025. More details and eligibility guidelines can be found at – www.dmscholarship.in.
