Patna: A youth poured boiling water on a girl’s face in northern Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district because she unfriended him on the social networking site Facebook.

The victim with severe burn injuries has been undergoing treatment at a local government hospital. Meanwhile, the police have formed a special team to arrest the accused, who is absconding.

The victim, a resident of Gannipur locality, had developed friendship with the youth Yudishsthir Yadav through Facebook. The victim studies in class 8, whereas the accused is an intermediate student.

Both had become friends around a year ago through Facebook and were having a smooth relationship. Of late, however, sourness crept into their relation after which, the youth had turned eccentric and begun posting strange comments on her Facebook wall.

Irritated by his behaviour, the victim unfriended him two weeks back. This left the youth more furious.

On Wednesday, while everyone was busy welcoming the New Year, the youth reached her house in the afternoon and locked the victim and her mother in a room. He then proceeded to the kitchen, boiled water and poured the boiled water on her face.

The girl’s father was not present in the home when the incident occurred. After committing the crime, the youth fled the scene.

The victim’s family has lodged a case and the police have swung into action and launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
