Patna: Police in Bihar have registered a case against a female teacher who continued drawing salary for three years after her resignation. According to officials, she was paid Rsone million (Dh49,115) over three years. The accused teacher has been absconding following registration of a case by the police.
Police said the accused, Chanda Kumari, had procured the job of a teacher with a government school in Bihar by submitting fake certificates to the state Education Department. She was posted at a middle school in Mashrakh block of Saran district.
Fake certificates
In 2015, she resigned from the job, following an order from Patna High Court, asking all teachers who had secured jobs on fake certificates to resign on their own in order to escape arrest and other legal actions. The order was issued after a case was filed in the court where it was alleged that several teachers had secured jobs on the basis of fake certificates and degrees.
Strangely, this female teacher continued receiving her salary for the next three years, from July 2015 to October 2018, allegedly in connivance with officials from the state Education Department. According to officials, she had received about Rs1 million in salary over three years.
The incident came to light after local villagers reported the matter to the Education Department and the inquiry that followed established the complaint as true. Finally, on Tuesday, Education Department authorities registered a case with the local police against three persons, including the female teacher in question. All the accused are currently absconding.
Fraudster draws Rs10 million salary from 25 schools
“We have registered a case with the police and will realise the entire amount paid to the accused teacher after her resignation,” Saran district education officer Ajay Kumar Singh told the media on Wednesday.
A similar incident had occurred in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh, where the police arrested one Aanamika Shukla who drew a salary of around Rs10 million by purporting to work in 25 schools simultaneously!
Drawing multiple salaries
During the course of the investigation, Shukla, who was appointed as a science teacher, was found working with Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools in Ambedkar Nagar, Baghpat, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Prayagraj and 20 other schools, simultaneously.
The fraud was detected after the creation of a digital database. The accused teacher was arrested earlier this month when she had gone to the office of the Education Department to tender her resignation, fearing arrest after the fraud was detected.
The real Aanamika Shukla, in whose name the accused teacher was allegedly drawing multiple salaries, was jobless. Armed with her documents, she reached the office of the education officer on June 10 — three days after the fraudster’s arrest — to inform him that her documents and degrees had been misused by the fraudster.
