Hyderabad: An officer serving in the ranks of the IGP in Andhra Pradesh has been sacked for misuse of power and wrongful acts in the North Bengal frontier.

Sreeram Tiwari is facing serious charges of misuse of office and bringing disrepute on the Indian Police Service, while he was serving in the border security force in 2006.

After he was found guilty by a BSF inquiry, the UPSC recommended his dismissal to the ministry of Home Affairs.

Sreeram Tiwari’s name also figured in another major controversy in the late 1990’s, in which he and two officers, Intelligence chief A Shiv Shankar and then Karimnagar SP Nalin Prabhat, wrongfully claimed the President’s Gallantry medal. They said they’d played a key role in the 1999 encounter in Karimnagar district, in which three central committee members of CPIML People’s War were killed.

An inquiry revealed that, contrary to their claim however, none of these officers were present during the event and had in fact flown to the spot in a helicopter much later.

Although he was not sacked on that occasion, Sreeram Tiwari failed to be promoted as a result, holding on to an insignificant post in the IGP.

Sources close to the officer say he has decided to challenge his dismissal in the Central Administrative Tribunal, Delhi.
