Michelin three-star chef to cook for astronauts
Berlin: A Michelin three-star chef has been appointed to take fine dining to outer space for the astronauts manning the International Space Station.
Harald Wohlfahrt has replaced the usual freeze-dried tubes of nourishment, which have been described as tasting like ‘cat food', with delicacies such as braised veal cheeks with wild mushrooms, white bean purees, Swabian potato soup and plum compote.
Recognised as one of the greatest chefs in Europe, Wohlfahrt had to take into account many factors when drawing up menus for the astronauts.
Salt accelerates bone loss, while extra Vitamin D is needed due to lack of sunlight.
