Yemeni president kicks off security deployment plan

Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Yemeni President yesterday kicked off the first stage of the security deployment plan in three governorates, east of the country, official sources said.

The official Yemeni news agency Saba quoted President Saleh as saying while addressing the security forces which started deployment in Marib, Shabwah and Al Jawf: "These well-trained forces make the first batch of the security forces which will be deployed in all the security areas of the administrative units throughout the country, in the framework of the comprehensive security plan.

"Security forces should always be a good example to follow, in courage, being alert and strong while performing duties in combating crimes and withstanding those who try to undermine the security, as well as while imposing the respect of law and order."

President Saleh asserted the need to cintinue training and preparing the security forces to attain security, stability, tranquility in society and protect it from crimes.

"No development can be achieved without security and stability. Development is the result of security. There must not be any negligence or leniency with the law breakers, and supremacy of law must be respected by all as no one is above the law," the president said.

The ceremony was attended by Rashad Al Alimi, Minister of Interior, and a number of senior security officials.

Yemen has shown cooperation with the United States the in field of combating terrorism recently. Tens of U.S. military experts have been training Yemeni Special Forces to fight terrorism.

Timothy Keating, Vice Admiral, the Commander of the U.S. Naval Forces, and Commander of the Fifth Fleet in Central Command, met with Abdul Qader Bajamal, the Yemeni Prime Minister, and discussed with him how to support the coast guards to prevent any infiltration of suspected elements in the country.

Yemeni security forces started pursuing Al Qaida suspects in the three governorates of Marib, Shabwah and Al Jawf late last December.
