A global exchange of ideas and inspiration
At the exclusive sneak preview on April 16, the energy was electric. Artists from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and more shared their visions with art lovers and media.
Veteran Emirati artist Mohamed Al Astad brings a unique blend of natural materials and cultural depth to the spotlight. Known for using iron filings, rust, sand, and sea salt, his works reflect the maritime soul of the UAE through vivid landscapes and surreal textures.
A pioneer of “The Art of Beach Pearls”, Al Astad lets nature itself — tides, wind, and humidity — help shape his pieces, making each one a living collaboration with the environment. “Art should be something the world hasn’t seen,” he says. “Be different. Be yourself.”
Founder of the Mohamed Al Astad Center for Artistic Creativity, he’s also a mentor, committed to sharing his techniques and supporting emerging artists across the region.
Another artist from Saudi Arabia, Mohamed FS Awad of 3D Artworks Gallery, is turning heads at World Art Dubai with his striking three-dimensional pieces. By layering multiple prints of the same image, Awad creates embossed effects that give his art real depth and texture.
“It’s all about the surface and layers,” he says. “Using the right materials — paper or canvas — makes all the difference.” His technique blends precision with creativity, offering a fresh way to engage with visual art.
Encouraging others to explore the style, Awad believes 3D art is not just about illusion — it’s about connection. His work adds a bold, tactile dimension to the fair’s celebration of innovation and global talent.
Spotlight on Filipino talent
In a defining moment for Filipino creativity on the world stage, His Excellency Ambassador Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver, Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and Consul-General Marford M. Angeles, Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates made a powerful appearance at World Art Dubai 2025, standing proudly among artists and supporters. Their presence wasn’t just ceremonial — it was a bold statement of solidarity, pride, and unwavering support for the burgeoning wave of Filipino talent lighting up the fair.
Consul-General Angeles emphasized the cultural significance of this moment, noting the high turnout of Filipino artists and the increasing depth of their collaboration with World Art Dubai. “The response this year has been truly inspiring,” he shared. “It’s exciting to witness Filipino artists not only participating — but thriving — in a global arena like Dubai.”
His message was clear: the time is now for Filipino artists to shine. With Dubai serving as a global crossroads for art and design, Angeles sees this event as an opportunity to spotlight the rich creativity, identity, and global relevance of the Filipino art scene. He also expressed optimism for the future, hinting at stronger partnerships and greater representation in the years to come.
Filipino curator and artist Carlo Garrido played a key role in showcasing Filipino talent, bringing together artists from around the world. Known for merging traditional Filipino influences with contemporary global themes, Garrido's gallery highlights both personal and universal stories.
A standout feature was a collaborative artwork created by three artists over 6,000 man-hours, priced at AED 325,000. Garrido emphasized accessibility, offering both grand pieces and affordable artworks for all to enjoy. Through his work, Garrido not only elevated Filipino art but also created a space for global engagement and cultural exchange, making a lasting impact at the fair.
