Weight loss remains a major challenge

Weight loss in cancer patients can present a significant challenge, say experts.

Certain types of cancer can cause changes to the body's metabolism, resulting in decreased appetite, faster consumption of calories and degeneration of body muscles, resulting in rapid weight loss.

"One of the challenges of keeping cancer patients stable while under treatment is trying to help them maintain a stable weight," said dietician Wafa Ayesh, head of the Clinical Nutrition Department at Dubai's Rashid Hospital.

She pointed out that there are some products available in the market, such as ProSure, which slow down or reverse weight loss in patients.
