Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has distributed 1,225 tonnes of food stuff to those affected by the unfolding events in Yemen.

Earlier, the ship loaded with the humanitarian aid, arrived in Aden to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis. Also other ships carrying 4,000 tonnes of petroleum products arrived in Aden to help operate the Yemeni hospitals, whose medical services deteriorated due to the lack of fuel, leading to the sharp decline of health conditions across Yemen.

Earlier in May, the ERC dispatched 850 tonnes of relief materials, including 650 tonnes of food stuff and 180 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies.

The ERC said in a statement that it has strengthened its relief operations for those affected by the events in Yemen in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and as per the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and the follow up of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the ERC.

The ERC underscored that it was one of the first regional humanitarian and international organisations that arrived in Yemen in the wake of the humanitarian truce, which was announced recently. It indicated that it delivered the relief aid to the Yemenis despite on field difficulties that impede the flow of aid to all Yemeni provinces, which are experiencing a severe shortage in all basic life requirements.

The ERC said that it is currently focused on providing the necessary and vital requirements, especially in the areas of health and shelter as well as petroleum derivatives, which are vital for many sectors.

It added that the delivery of aid to those affected in Yemen represents a major challenge for aid workers and medical teams that deal with life-saving operations, noting that the aid distribution takes place in coordination and cooperation with regional and international humanitarian organisations currently operating in Yemen, with the aim to ease the suffering of those affected and improve humanitarian conditions.

The ERC confirmed its commitment to strengthen its efforts in Yemen during the coming period to ward off the effects of the crisis in Yemen that have been affecting large segments of Yemeni people, adding that it would provide more aid for those affected.
