Dubai: For the second day in a row, Al Zubarah Beach in Khor Fakkan remains closed to swimmers, with no confirmed timeline yet for when it will reopen.

The Khor Fakkan Municipality announced on Monday afternoon that the closure is a precautionary step taken to ensure the safety of beachgoers after traces of oil were found in the seawater. The move is part of the municipality’s commitment to keeping the beach clean and safe for the public.

“This is a temporary measure,” officials said, reassuring residents and visitors that teams are working around the clock to monitor the situation and resolve it as soon as possible. “Your safety is our top priority.”

The municipality also issued an apology for any inconvenience caused and thanked the community for their patience and cooperation.

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, confirmed to Gulf News that swimming was suspended as a precaution due to the presence of a small amount of oil in the sea.

“We’re actively monitoring the situation alongside the municipality and investigating the source of the oil,” she said, adding that public safety remains the highest concern.
