Dubai: Phase 2 of the Dh178 million Seih Assalam Road expansion will begin shortly, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Saturday.

The expansion work covers a 21-km-long stretch from Al Qudra roundabout to the Dubai — Al Ain Road intersection.

Heading from Al Qudra roundabout, near the cycling rest area, the dual carriageway will snake through Al Lisaili and Al Marmoom, with two lanes in each direction.

“The project will also include construction of nine roundabouts, four crossings for camels and horses, a cycling track, service roads, and car parking besides broadening the existing parking lot of Dubai International Endurance City,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.

Early this year, RTA opened Phase I of the dual carriageway of Seih Assalam Road extending 12km from Bab Al Shams Hotel and Dubai International Endurance City to Al Qudra roundabout.

Last year, RTA completed the widening of Al Qudra Road from the Jebel Ali — Lehbab intersection to Bab Al Shams roundabout extending 12km and comprising three lanes in each direction. The project was completed at a cost of Dh110 million.
