The televised campaign raised Dh 18. 603.520 thanks to the generosity of organisations and private citizen.
This is a part of an ongoing campaign launched by the UAE to raise money, food and other necessities for the people of Yemen who continue to suffer catastrophic famine and shortage of life-sustaining medicines and necessities.
“The telethon has ended but the campaign has not. This is a campaign not just to provide food but to build a neighbouring country and revamp its infrastructure,” Ahmad Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Board of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), told Gulf News.
“We are expecting large amounts of money from the big businessmen with whom we are in touch, and who promised their support as soon as they are back in the country,” he added.
‘’Sanadhom’’ (Support them) campaign is carried out across the UAE in cooperation with the Khalifa Bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation and the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation.
Earlier this month, President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan approved Dh500 million in aid to Yemen. This and other donations raised will provide basic foods, medical supplies directly to the hungry and needy people of Yemen.
Food, medicines and basic material and shelter are being distributed directly by the campaign centres to the people of Yemen. Distribution centres are already operating in some areas for urgent needs, and others are being set up as fast as possible to support the needy people throughout the country based on highest priorities and needs.
