Sharjah: A Keralite bank manager in Sharjah reportedly lost his job and now faces legal action after being scammed by his own wife, who allegedly duped him out of Dh100,000 and has a history of similar fraud.

The shocking case was revealed by Youseph Sagheer, a long-time UAE resident and managing committee member of the Indian Association Sharjah (IAS). Sagheer, who also leads the association’s RISE initiative tackling domestic crisis and social issues, said the woman has defrauded not just her husband but several others.

Trusted wife with bank money

“This was financial fraud,” said Sagheer. “The husband gave his wife Dh100,000 for just a day. He withdrew the amount from the bank without informing anyone, trusting his wife. But she refused to return the money. As a result, he lost his job and is now dealing with court cases.”

History of fraud emerges

According to Sagheer, the woman has allegedly cheated others in a similar way – claiming an urgent need for money, then refusing to repay.
“We summoned her, but she refused to cooperate. When invited to the association, she told us her lawyer advised her not to come.”

The couple reportedly had a love marriage, but the man, described as “decent and efficient,” was blindsided by his wife's deceit.

Case heading to court

Further inquiries revealed that the woman had previously misappropriated Dh150,000 from a firm for a real estate transaction. The money, meant to be deposited in a bank, never made it there.

“It’s only now that we’re discovering the extent of her fraud,” Sagheer said.

The association has referred the couple to the courts for legal resolution.
