Abu Dhabi: The Lulu Hypermarket at the Mall at The World Trade Center (WTC) will get four new self-service checkout counters by May. The automated counters were first introduced in Abu Dhabi at the Lulu Hypermarket in Mushrif Mall, last October.

“Since the installation, we have had excellent response from customers due to the ease of use and efficient transactions. Apart from WTC, we will be rolling out these counters in our other branches soon,” said Reghu Kuttikat, Point of Sale and Loyalty Systems manager at Lulu.

Self service

The self-checkout counters do not need the assistance of a cashier to complete the process.

Guided by an intuitive interface and automated audio-visual prompts, customers can rapidly scan, pack and pay for their items. Presently, payments can be made with credit cards or phone apps (like ApplePay and Samsung-Pay). In future cash transactions will also come into effect.

Kutikat explained that the customers enjoyed the convenience and privacy of these counters over the cashier-assisted lines, especially for small purchases.
