Islamabad: The UAE Project to Aid Pakistan (UAE PAP) is an ideal model and evidence of the humanitarian and development efforts of the UAE leadership, which strives to provide all forms of aid and support for the brotherly people of Pakistan.

The UAE PAP was launched on January 12, 2011, on the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the close follow-up of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The UAE PAP was set up with the aim of helping Pakistan overcome the consequences of the destructive torrential rain by renovating infrastructure.

According to a report issued yesterday on Emirates News Agency (WAM), projects costing $302.56 million (Dh1.1 billion) were carried out by the UAE PAP during the past few years, through which a total of 156 developmental and humanitarian projects were implemented.

The UAE PAP distributed 83,000 food baskets at a cost of $4.82 million to needy families displaced by floods and military operations in 2012 and 2014. The UAE PAP also distributed 55 tonnes of dates to needy families in various provinces and areas of the country. Following the floods, the UAE PAP also conducted vaccination and awareness campaigns to combat infectious diseases in Pakistan, after floods displaced many families. Food aid and school bags were also distributed to poor families.
