Extended opening hours will allow people to continue their regular activities, official says
Sharjah: During Ramadan shops and restaurants can remain open until 4am, Sharjah Municipality announced.
Salons, bakeries, sweet shops and cafeterias will be able to operate past their usual opening hours. They usually close at midnight.
The move aims to make shopping easier for the public during and after fasting. The extension will allow people to continue their regular activities during Ramadan and will ease the pressure on both shops and the public, said Omar Al Sharji, Director of Operations and Inspection at Municipal Services.
He also said that the municipality will grant special permits to a number of commercial outlets in accordance with a set of regulations and legal requirements. He said shops will be subject to monitoring to ensure they do not disturb the public late at night.
All outlets who wish to obtain a permit can submit their applications to the Department of Operations and Inspection at Sharjah Municipality in Industrial area 5.
Also in celebration of Ramadan, Sharjah Municipality has completed decorating the city’s streets and squares with lights inspired by Islamic designs to reflect the month’s spiritual flavour.
The municipality, along with the Sharjah Charity Association, will also set up an iftar at the municipality’s labour accommodation located in Sharjah’s Industrial area 3. A number of religious lectures in various languages will also be held at the accommodation. The municipality will also hold football competitions and award the winners with prizes.
