Pakistani association's building to be reconstructed
Dubai: The newly-elected managing committee of the Pakistan Association Dubai has vowed to reconstruct the multi-purpose association building - a project which has been delayed for more than 15 years.
"We promise to change the plight of the association and the construction of the new building for the association is on top of our agenda," said Riaz Farooq, after taking charge as president of the association.
Abdul Hamid, Consul General of Pakistan, administered oath for the 11-member managing committee for 2007-09 in the presence of a large number of prominent community members.
Farooq called on the community members to come forward and join the association. He said he would try his best to bridge the gap between the association and the community.
Currently, the association has only 163 members while there are more than 700,000 Pakistanis living in the UAE.
Farooq said he would launch a comprehensive community welfare programme to help the poor and destitute. "Soon we will invite community members for suggestions about what facilities they would like to have in the new building."
